Description

You need to understand the region first. It will help you decide if it's your wine or not. We are in the Beaujolais region, in the old vines (35-70 years) of Gamay with sable-granite soil at 350 m altitude, with a south-east orientation and a certified bio-agriculture method of wine production. Bellevue is a recognised lieu-dit within the Morgon appellation, one of a handful of named parcels (alongside the more famous Côte du Py) that growers and critics point to when talking about the cru's internal diversity.

Like the rest of Morgon, it sits on granite-derived soils around Villié-Morgon, in the heart of Beaujolais — but each lieu-dit here carries its own particular exposure, slope, and soil mix, and Bellevue's southeast-facing aspect gives it excellent, even sun exposure through the ripening season.

The vine and the climat

100% Gamay Noir, grown on the estate's parcel within this specific southeast-facing, granite-soil site, farmed organically and biodynamically and hand-harvested, in keeping with the domaine's practice across both Burgundy and Beaujolais.

A wine that shows Morgon's power in a slightly more approachable, sun-kissed register than the domaine's other Morgon bottling — a lovely introduction to the cru's serious side.

Serve at 14–16°C. Approachable within its first 2–4 years, with the structure to hold for longer.

Biodynamic viticulture, founded by Rudolf Steiner, encompasses the cultivation of the vine all the way through to winemaking. To achieve the right balance between the plant and the soil, the winemaker works the land and uses biodynamic preparations, energizing composts, and plants. All of this is done in accordance with the biodynamic calendar.
Biodynamics describes these viticultural practices based on a vision of the earth as a living whole, giving the terroir the opportunity to express itself and reveal its distinctiveness while enhancing its immunity.

Tasting notes

Colour: deep ruby with the characteristic ochre-red hue Morgon's granite soils tend to give the grape.
Nose: ripe stone fruit — the plum and dark cherry character singled out by the estate as Morgon's defining trait — layered with the site's granitic minerality.

Palate: a touch more open and fruit-forward than "Le Dôme," while still carrying real structure; the tannins are present but well-integrated, and the granite terroir keeps a mineral thread running under the fruit right through the finish. The wine is smooth with very light and subtle tannins. It has a nice acidity that gives a sensation of freshness and liveliness.

Aromas: You mostly notice fruit (strawberry, raspberry, cherry). Depending on how it's made, it can also bring to mind banana, English candy (boiled sweets), or spices.

Nuances: Simple wines (like nouveau/primeur) are very fruity and easy to drink. Wines from great terroirs (the Beaujolais crus like our Morgon or Fleurie) have more depth, more structure, and floral notes like peony.
